"AOI understands that access to and affordability of healthcare is crucial to Oregonians. AOI actively supports legislation that looks at public private partnerships that addresses this key issue of Oregonians, even if it means opposing politically popular mandates.”

Public Policy: Health Care

Guiding Principles

  • Promote an efficient and accountable government by prioritizing programs and budgets within existing
  • resources.
  • Promote market-friendly institutions by increasing competition and complementing innovation.

Board Directive

The AOI Board of Directors' directive is to support health care legislation that provides basic health care to the greatest number of Oregonians. The directive is to support innovative private sector initiatives and/or public/private partnerships rather than government programs.

Issues

The issues addressed by the Health Care Council include health care cost containment, mandated benefits, insurance reform and regulation, uninsured and underinsured populations, alternative care, patient protection, licensing, scope of practice, any willing provider, pharmaceuticals, reform of Oregon's Medicaid program and funding for the Oregon Health Plan.

How We Work

The AOI Health Care Council is open to all dues paying members. Membership consists of both providers and purchasers, thereby insuring a platform for both groups to be heard. The Council addresses issues that usually arise directly from the membership. Recommended policy positions are sent to the Board of Directors for input and direction. The Council also serves as a technical advisor to the Board of Directors.
